Nuclear Pioneers

Philo Taylor Farnsworth was an American inventor, born on 19 August 1906 near Beaver, Utah, and died on 11 March 1971, who was granted the first patent for the television by the United States government. He also invented a video camera tube and the image dissector, and held 300 patents, mostly in radio and television. In later life he invented the Farnsworth Fusor, a small nuclear fusion device employing inertial electrostatic confinement; like many fusion devices it was not a practical source of nuclear power, although it provides a viable source of neutrons, and its design inspired other approaches including the Polywell reactor concept.
