The largest fusion experiment ever undertaken, a tokamak under construction at Cadarache in southern France by a partnership spanning China, the European Union, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia and the United States. ITER is designed to produce ten times more fusion power than the heating power injected into its plasma, a scientific demonstration rather than a power station: it will generate no electricity itself.
