Tidal and Marine Energy

Also Known As Marine Energy
Renewable
Wave Over a Turbine

Electricity generated from the movement of seawater: the rise and fall of tides, tidal streams, and waves. The tidal barrage at La Rance in France has generated power since 1966, and tides are exactly predictable in a way wind and sunlight are not, but high costs and hard marine conditions have kept marine energy a small contributor worldwide.

Facts

The La Rance tidal power station in Brittany, opened in 1966, was the first commercial-scale tidal plant in the world.
